FAMILY ENGAGEMENT WORKER
The Family Engagement Worker (FEW) is a new role that has been developed in Risdon Prison. Based on practices to provide prison based family support workers in UK prison Onesimus has developed a team of FEWs to support offenders and their families.
Family Engagement Workers are focused on achieving the very best outcomes for offenders and their families; to reduce re-offending and to safeguard and improve the life chances of offenders' children and their families.
The Family Engagement Worker work directly with offenders and their families and in partnership with a range of professionals in prison and in the community.
CHURCHILL FELLOWSHIP REPORT
In 2014 Norm Reed undertook a Churchill Fellowship Study visiting Singapore, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Wales, Scotland and England to examine the role of Family Engagement Worker. Visiting 21 prisons Norm gained a good understanding of the current practices of organisations working with offender's and their families.
